My Footbinding history professor came to class with a sack full of shoes. We each get to take home (for rent) an authentic fin de siecle shoe that has possibly been worn more than a hundred years ago!! Being the leading scholar on footbinding, she has come to collect an array of little shoes differing in style and pattern. Our homework is to 'live' with the shoe for a semester, and let it be a part of our lives. I took some pictures just so you can get a sense of the size of things..

  1. haha.. sexy tiny asian foot... beware of posting such pictures!
wow, it's actually smaller than your foot! But, they would gradually bind down to that size, right?.. or just prevent it from growing

  2. ohh..i will tell you all about footbinding after I finish the class. NOT sexy at all, more like disgusting. You have to break a girl's feet and bones and bend the toes in around age 4 so they never grow larger. things puss and bleed and you step on your own toes in order to break them fully. Basically, a foot-bound women is a woman walking with her digits curled in under. that's how a regular shoe size is halved. the best most 'beautiful feet' are 3 inches?!?!
